How to Handle the Unexpected

Your computer has a processor. If you waltz into a store today, you’ll have the choice if i3, i5, and i7 chips from Intel. I’m writing this post on a Dell Latitude E5410 with an Intel Inside Core i5 chip.

All the chips come from the same assembly line in the same factory. If you study the manufacturing process, it is identical for every single one. The same raw materials go into the same machines, and a nearly identical chip comes out the other side.

They aren’t divided into i3, i5, or i7 categories until after they’re produced. Each chip is tested for speed, then put into the right bucket.

Isn’t that phenomenal? Intel doesn’t know what they’re going to get until the chip comes out the other side. Yet they roll with whatever they get.
