Why I Support Coding Bootcamps

There’s a Ruby on Rails coding bootcamp in Boston called Launch Academy. I know two people who have attended it: Ashley and Peter. Neither of them had much coding background prior to enrolling.

Launch Academy is a 10-week bootcamp. Both Ashley and Peter got great jobs when they finished. At $12,500 it’s not cheap, but it also seems to be an amazing value. Coding pays well, and Ruby on Rails is a hot skill to have.

I’m tempted to take a leave of absence from work and enroll just for the fun of it. I’ve always enjoyed coding, and although I’ve done 2 semesters of Java and one semester of .Net, my coding skills are rusty. The other option is learning by building a project. I’m toying around with a new idea, WorkThere.co, that I think I’m going to build a minimum viable product for.

Here’s another great post by Brad Feld about coding bootcamps. He’s also a believer. http://www.feld.com/archives/2015/01/great-coding-school-rollup-2015.html
